Windows Voice Recorder: The Free Sound Recorder
If you are looking for a free sound recorder for dictations, and you own a machine that runs on Windows 10, your search ends here. Here’s how you can use the simple Windows Voice Recorder to make excellent recordings right from your computer.
This sound recorder normally comes bundled with Windows 10. If you don’t already have it, grab the Windows Voice Recorder app from the Microsoft Store.
Using this sound recorder is really simple.
Connect your microphone to your computer and launch the Windows Voice Recorder app. Click on the microphone icon in the center to start recording.
The app will start recording and a timer will indicate the recording length.
There is no limit to the length of audio you can record using this sound recorder.
When done recording, click on the little square icon to stop recording. Your new recording will then appear in the app’s list of recordings.
You can right-click on the new recording to Email, Delete, Rename, or open the recording’s location on your computer.
To playback a recording, select the desired file and click on the play icon.
And that’s it! It’s as easy as that.
You can use this free sound recorder on your PC, tablet, and Windows Phone. All you need is a decent microphone and you can record your dictations, memos, lectures, etc. straight into your Windows device for free.
Tip: If you are at a lecture or a meeting making notes in Microsoft OneNote, you can use this sound recorder to capture audio simultaneously. OneNote will not only insert the audio in your notes but also sync them to the audio. Read more about it here.
